Tianxi Cai

Dr. Cai’s current research interests are mainly in the area of biomarker evaluation; model selection and validation; prediction methods; personalized medicine in disease diagnosis, prognosis and treatment; statistical inference with high dimensional data; and survival analysis.

 

Katherine Liao
Assistant Professor and Clinician, Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and VA Hospital

Email: KLIAO@BWH.HARVARD.EDUDr. Liao is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Bioinformatics at Harvard Medical School, Associate Physician in the Division of Rheumatology, Immunology, and Allergy, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), and a Staff Rheumatologist at the VA Boston Healthcare System. She serves as Director of the VERITY Bioinformatics Resource Core, and co-directs the Cardiovascular Rheumatology Clinic a collaboration between the BWH Divisions of Rheumatology and Cardiology. At Boston VA, she co-directs the Applied Bioinformatics Core for Clinical Research within the Massachusetts Veterans Epidemiology and Information Center which serves nationwide VA investigators.

Dr. Cai has medical doctor background and he has been a researcher on Bioinformatic area at BWH and VA Boston Health System for a few years. He is now an Associate Bioinformatician in the Division of Rheumatology at BWH and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is also a member of the VERITY Bioinformatics Resource Core at BWH. Prior to coming to BWH, he was a practicing general surgeon in China. His research focus and expertise is in natural language processing (NLP) and clinical informatics. Incorporating NLP and machine learning techniques, he developed several software and generalized GUI tools for data extraction, patient recruitment, note selection and chart review to perform clinical outcomes research and disease classification.

Lauren Costa

Lauren has been working at the Boston VA hospital as a research project manager/coordinator for over two years, and has worked with the BRIC team since she started. She graduated from Boston University School of Public Health with her MPH in Epidemiology in 2016, and also obtained her undergraduate degree in Health Science at BU.

 

Nicholas Link

Nick is a data analyst in the BRIC team working full time at MAVERIC, a research division of the Boston VA Hospital. He graduated from Rice University in 2015 with a B.A. in applied mathematics and joined our team in August 2017. He has been working on NLP, MAP, and various other tasks the team is involved in.

 

Selena Huang

Dr. Huang is a rheumatology fellow at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in health data science at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.  She is interested in disease phenotyping and risk prediction using machine learning methods, utilizing the electronic health record data.

 

Kumar Dahal,

Kumar is a Programmer Analyst at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He completed his MS in Computer Science from the University of Memphis in 2017 and joined Brigham in April 2018. He has over 5 years of experience in database system, particularly in US Healthcare Data Analysis. His main interests lie in the areas of Health Care Data Analysis and Management, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning.

 

Ashley Galloway

Ashley Galloway, MPH, joined MAVERIC as a project manager in June 2018, where she currently helps manage multi-site epidemiology research studies. Ashley received her MPH in Epidemiology and Social and Behavioral Sciences from Boston University School of Public Health in 2013. She has gained experience in clinical trial research, epidemiologic investigations, and coordination of a statewide public health program for newborn hearing screening for the state of New Mexico. Most recently, she was project manager for the Surgical Health Scientists Aligning with Patient Priorities Research Core within the Center for Surgery and Public Health.
